Sunday Service: "Does the Nation Have a Soul?"

Sun, Feb 12

UUCGL Sanctuary (and Facebook Live!)

During his run for President, Joe Biden often used an expression like "restoring the soul of America." It made me think of a recent book by historian Jon Meacham, The Soul of America: The Battle for our Better Angels. Does a nation have a soul, I wondered? I'll explore this Sunday.

"Does the Nation Have a Soul?"

—Rev. Art McDonald, Guest Minister

During his run for President, Joe Biden often used an expression like "restoring the soul of America." It made me think of a recent book by historian Jon Meacham, The Soul of America: The Battle for our Better Angels. Does a nation have a soul, I wondered? I'll explore this Sunday.

We will be together at church and on Facebook Live.

  • Given the seasonal spike in COVID cases and the spread of other infectious diseases like flu and RSV, we encourage the wearing of masks when we are together. Masks are an easy and simple way to minimize worry over sharing germs as we enjoy each other’s company.  For those of you who would like to maintain social distance in the sanctuary (which has several air filters running every Sunday), the front side of the sanctuary by the wooden Lydia Breed sculpture is reserved for you. (See diagram here)
  • If you will be joining us online you can access the Order of Service here (updated document will be posted 24-48 hours before the Sunday Service). For the morning offertory you may donate online here. Those with joys, sorrows, milestones and prayer requests to share with the minister and congregation are welcome to submit them here.
