Lent is the forty day period leading to Easter that is traditionally dedicated to prayer, self-reflection, penitence and self-denial. In this time of pandemic, when we are already denied so much, I think it is important for those who observe Lenten spiritual practice to find a practice that is life-giving and deep, not self-flagellating!
I will be participating in an online 7-week Sunday night Lenten Journey through Rolling Ridge Retreat Center in North Andover (our central text will be Henri Nouwen's Lenten manual, "Show Me The Way") and also co-leading weekly Lenten meditations on Wednesdays with a group of UU ministers who are also friends.
I hope that you will consider joining our UU Lenten Meditations, and if not, consider this difficult season an invitation to reflect on your belovedness. We tend to be very good at critical self-reflection. What if, for forty days, we considered our actions, thought and struggles in the context of the Universalist assurance that we are always, always loved as we are? As we approach the year anniversary of the pandemic, please recognize how tired and in need of daily doses of quiet openness to God's love you may be. However you do this, I hope that you will do it.
In faith, hope and love,
Rev. Vicki
