Do you ever talk to someone who is sharing difficult feelings like depression, grief, struggles with addiction, anger… and you don’t know what to say? Most of us feel that if we’re not offering helpful advice, we’re just not helping but that’s not true. In fact, advice is often the last thing people actually need. What they need is presence, a caring witness to their lives, a sense that they are not alone. We have all been through traumatic events recently, which brings another dimension to these conversations. So that’s what we will be doing at the Trauma-Informed Caring Conversations training: learning more about the trauma part of the equation and getting more comfortable with being present for each other. If you’ve ever had a conversation with anyone, you’re invited. If you are making caring calls as part of the Pastoral Care Ministry Team, you’re especially invited. When we learn more about how to be present for others, we learn about ourselves, our own hearts and our own deepest yearnings for authentic connection.
