Good Wife, Bad Witch: The Terrorization and Domestication of Women in Early Modern Europe

-Rev. Dr. Victoria Weinstein

Most New Englanders are very familiar with the outbreak of the witch craze in 17th century Salem, Massachusetts, but many have never heard of the Burning Times, a period of roughly 150 years in Europe during which tens of thousands of women and girls were tortured and executed for the imaginary crime of witchcraft.

This lecture and conversation will be led by Victoria Weinstein who has been studying this history since young adulthood and has a personal mission to educate as many people as possible of its terrible legacy.

This event is open to the public, will contain some graphic and upsetting content, and is intended to honor the lives and memories of the women and girls whose horrifying experiences are further insulted by grotesque depictions of witches so popular at Halloween time.

Those who attend in person are kindly requested to wear a mask.

Registration Required* for in-person or online attendance. A zoom link for livestreaming will be emailed when you register.

*Registration closes October 29th
