Ukrainian Easter Eggs (Pysanky)
We are excited to announce a new Art & Spirituality Workshop series for adults beginning roughly once a month on Sundays after church, as a way to share art-based spiritual practices with each other and with the greater community.
We’d like to begin with a pysanky program on March 13th at 1:30pm. We will meet downstairs in the lower-level, large middle classroom, to create pysanky together. A pysanka (Ukrainian: писанка, plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. It is a wonderful spiritual practice and a small way to honor the Ukrainian people now. The practice of decorating eggs with nature symbols predated Christianity as a spring ritual, and then later became an Easter practice through a process of religious syncretism.
