New Art & Spirituality Workshop series begins!

Ukrainian Easter Eggs (Pysanky)

We are excited to announce a new Art & Spirituality Workshop series for adults beginning roughly once a month on Sundays after church, as a way to share art-based spiritual practices with each other and with the greater community.

We’d like to begin with a pysanky program on March 13th at 1:30pm. We will meet downstairs in the lower-level, large middle classroom, to create pysanky together. A pysanka (Ukrainian: писанка, plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. It is a wonderful spiritual practice and a small way to honor the Ukrainian people now. The practice of decorating eggs with nature symbols predated Christianity as a spring ritual, and then later became an Easter practice through a process of religious syncretism. The dye we will use can stain clothes, so please dress accordingly if you plan to participate! The process can take a few hours, so please plan to stay for the afternoon.

We do need you to RSVP so that we can plan for adequate supplies. Please contact me at chris.scheller@gmail.com to RSVP. Also, please save the date of April 10th after church, when we are hoping to offer our second workshop in the series. And if you have any arts that help you connect spiritually that you would like to share with others in the congregation at a later workshop date, please let me know that as well!

Abundant Blessings,
