Meet Your Board of Trustees

Mary Gatlin and her family (husband Jason, son Jackson) have been attending UUCGL since 2017. They moved to Lynn from Eugene, Oregon, in 2016 and love being in such a diverse and friendly community. Mary is a member of the Faith Development Ministry Team and helps organize volunteers to maintain the church’s vegetable garden in the summer. She serves on the Lynn Park Commission and runs Ames Community Garden and the Lynn Seed Library.

Sarah Cecil joined the church over 30 years ago, when her son Nico was in the pre-K Sunday School group and son Mark was in the crib room. Sarah is now retired after a career as a corporate lawyer. Over the years she has served in each of the church officer positions at least once. In addition to being Treasurer and a Board member, Sarah is currently a member of the church's Stanley School project task force and she loves singing in the choir.

Jack Butterworth joined the church in 1968 and has served as a trustee, president, vice president and past president. He lives with his charming wife, Lyssa, and has three sons: John, a computer security expert; Craig, a designer at IRobot; and his stepson Russell. He has five grandchildren, Ryan, Richard, Will, Katherine and Ida. Jack was a newspaper reporter for 42 years, a writer of comic book stories, a collector of comic book art, elected Swampscott Town Meeting member and Library Trustee, and a Red Cross volunteer, spending time in Louisiana in 2005 and 2007. In November, Jack celebrated his 80th birthday and in his spare time he is selling off several large collections, as well as working on a novel and a play. Jack says, "I guess if you live long enough you're bound to do something interesting."

Loretta Connolly has been at UUCGL for 15 years. She and her husband, Cliff Charney, live in Swampscott and raised their daughter, Meredith, in the UUCGL. Loretta is an experienced HR professional, and was a town meeting member for ten years. She has served on the following UU committees and groups: Personnel Committee, RE Director Search Committee, Properties Committee, UU Women's group, Youth Group mentor, etc. She enjoys cooking, gardening, kayaking, and traveling.

Cathy Cubby started attending UUCGL in 2018. Not a New Englander by birth, Cathy first came north for undergraduate school. After moving throughout the country, she decided to return to New England for graduate school, eventually settling on the North Shore of Massachusetts. She holds a MSW and works with aging-out foster youth in the greater Boston area. Cathy first learned of the UU church through her father, who would attend The First Parish in Cambridge when he was in college. Her cousin, Kelly, is also involved in the UU church (Maryland) and provides veterinary pastoral care. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading books and ballroom dancing.

Linda Jones started coming to UUCGL in 1994 with her wife Doreen and their son Andy, who

was starting kindergarten. She has served on the Board on and off for several decades and was

Board president from 2007-2009. She also taught OWL twice, for high schoolers and junior high

youth. A retired psychologist and administrator, she started out as a junior high school music

teacher and loves to sing in the choir as well as several other local community choruses.

Nicki Buscemi and her family have been at UUCGL for over 12 years. She lives in Lynn with her husband, Scott Nowka, and their two sons, Connor and Bruno, both of whom have grown up in the supportive environment of the UUCGL. Nicki and Scott are Midwesterners (raised in Illinois and received their PhDs from the University of Iowa) who’ve now very happily made their home here in Massachusetts. Nicki is an English professor at North Shore Community College and a long-time member of the UUCGL Faith Development Ministry Team. In her free time, she loves to dance and do yoga.

Evan Katz and his wife Liz Smith have been attending UUCGL since 2016 when they moved to Swampscott while he served as the town’s School Business Manager. Evan is now retired after a career as a senior financial manager in Massachusetts school departments and city halls. He enjoys baseball year-round as a player, coach, writer and social media creator. Evan and Liz have four children, and with five grandchildren living far from the North Shore they are thankful for the technology that brings their family closer to home.

Francene Amari-Faulkner is a recovering ex-catholic and has been a Unitarian Universalist for almost 30 years. She has 2 grown daughters, Estelle and Liza and a son-in-law, Phil. Francene was a member of the Concord UU church and choir prior to moving to Nahant in 2017. She is also a member of the UUCGL choir and a passionate advocate for animals and wildlife. Her day job is as an architect and Senior Project manager at Harvard.
