Children and youth are natural, spontaneous worshipers. They pause in awe and wonder in the course of their daily lives. They hunger and thirst for meaning, for ritual, for solace, and for celebration with family and friends. In religious community we offer moments of quiet, of thoughtful challenge, and of ritual to respond to this hunger.
Sunday Worship
Children and youth attend the opening of the worship service with their parents almost every Sunday before moving on to their Religious Education program.
They participate in the service through—
- lighting the chalice
- sharing their musical talents
- sometimes telling a story or doing a reading
- singing with a children’s choir on special occasions
Several services during the year are designed for children to participate through the full hour with their families.
Special seating at the rear of the sanctuary is reserved for families with young children who may need to leave while worship is in progress. An audio broadcast in the adjoining Parish Hall allows parents who need to stay with restless children to hear the service.
Worship in Religious Education
As the children engage with programs in their classrooms, experiences of worship and meditation are woven organically into the lessons. Children and youth are encouraged to participate in creating such worshipful moments, as well as to experience what others have created for them.
