Ministries in Lynn

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn has roots that go back for hundreds of years in the Lynn Community. Two of the three churches that historically comprise our modern church were located in Lynn. We have a long history of doing social justice work in this city and many members of our community live in Lynn.  Here are some highlights of the Social Justice work we are doing in Lynn—

Boys & Girls Club

We work to build relationships with and support the young people of Lynn through multiple programs at the Boys & Girls Club.

My Brother's Table

My Brother’s Table is a soup kitchen in downtown Lynn serving meals daily to those in need. The UUCGL commits to help serve one meal a month. The Unitarian Universalist Women of Greater Lynn serve meals monthly throughout the year, and our junior youth group, the “Frozen Pickles,” supports its services. Several members of our church also participate in other fundraising events such as the Walk for My Brother's Table.

ECCO

We have enjoyed a long relationship with the Essex County Community Organization (ECCO), an interfaith community activist organization in Lynn.

Operation Bootstrap

Operation Bootstrap is a community based organization whose work expands opportunities and support for low income residents by providing basic skills training and a variety of classes for Adult Learners. Many of our members and friends volunteer their time and skills to support the educational programs of Operation Bootstrap.

Food Pantries

Each week members of our community bring nonperishable food to be distributed to Lynn Food Pantries. If you are interested in doing this, please bring nonperishable food and place it in the labeled bin located in the foyer of the church.

Lynn Community Health Center

Our annual Christmas Sunday intergenerational worship service features the “Mitten Tree,” which members decorate with mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves for the Lynn Community Health Center. Our youth group, YRUU, sponsors the annual Giving Tree, gathering gifts for children who are clients of the Health Center.

Help for Abused Women and their Children (HAWC)

The Unitarian Universalist Women of Greater Lynn sponsor an annual gathering of toiletries for the local women’s shelter.
