Parish Minister

I am a native of Alabama and grew up there during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. My journey as a parish minister for over 30 years has given me an understanding of conservative and liberal Christianity, as well as familiarity with Eastern religions. In addition, my interest in science influences my theology. My wife, Linda Lee Knight, and I are dual citizens of the United States and Canada. In 2001, I was called by this congregation to be its Parish Minister. I serve as the administrative, programmatic, and spiritual leader. Learn more about our Minister.

I am a lifelong Unitarian Universalist and have served this faith that I love in many ways – as a volunteer, a professional religious educator, a parish minister and a staff member of the Unitarian Universalist Association. My primary home is with my husband in an old farmhouse in southern NH, but I stay in Swampscott several days a week. I am with this good congregation for just a short time (until June 2011) as Consulting Minister of Religious Education. My primary responsibility is to support and facilitate the program of religious growth for people of all ages.

Church Administrator

I oversee the administrative, financial, facility, and human resource operations of the church. Being church administrator seems a serendipitous combination of my past careers in management consulting, publishing, and facilities management and my desire to continue in a religious environment in which work would be a ministry. My past church experience includes capital campaign and building project management, data analysis and development of case studies in growth, and work as volunteer coordinator, grants coordinator, and newsletter editor. I strive to create and maintain a welcoming, nurturing home for parishioners and guests; a supportive, friendly work environment for staff; and a smoothly running business operation.

I am a performing harpsichordist and organist whose commitment to teaching includes helping people of all ages to enjoy making and listening to music. A church musician since my undergraduate days at Bard College, I have primarily had the privilege of serving Episcopal churches, but in 2002, I began as Director of Music at this, my first UU congregation. In addition to freelance performing, I also teach at the Longy School of Music, Tufts University, and the New England Conservatory of Music, and live in Gloucester with my husband, Greg, and son, Nick, both of whom are pipe organ builders.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from the University of Montana and a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. Before serving the UU Church of Greater Lynn, I was the Director of Youth Ministry at the Unitarian Universalist Association for six years. I work 20 hours a week for the church and my main office hours are on Thursdays and Sundays. I am responsible for the deepening and growth of our membership and for supporting the development of the church’s volunteer leaders. When not at the church I am a stay-at-home dad for two wonderful kids.

I have been a Unitarian Universalist since 1986 when I joined UUCGL to raise our daughter in this faith community. I have served our faith in many areas of religious education at our church in Swampscott and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northern Nevada. My work as teacher, youth advisor, and chair of the Curriculum Committee and Religious Education Committee/Department at both churches naturally progressed to my work in our church office as Administrative Assistant. My primary responsibilities are the production of The Times, the Sunday Orders of Worship and other printed communications, the processing of church income, and the support of the church community and staff. I have worked in our church office since 1994.

I maintain the building and grounds of this church and try to provide a safe, neat, welcoming environment for parishioners and guests. For decades I have been a landscaper and now have a property maintenance company. This is a very special place for me with its peaceful nature and I try to take care of it so others can enjoy the same benefits.

I am the Director of Ocean Breeze Nursery School. I have a master’s degree in Early Education. My goal is to teach children to welcome new experiences, to question, problem solve, reason, and master one’s self. The school is a community service and is open to children ages two to six.
Kathy Lique
Grants Coordinator
781-595-8836, ext. 23
I have been a member of the UUCGL since the early 1990s and have been Grants Coordinator for 13 years. I have two daughters, Maya and Sarah, who live with the inspiration of the Religious Education program. Both girls are from Korea, and live in the Boston area.
I have been on the board of the church, on the Social Concerns and Adult RE committees and have sung in the choir. I have had a career in social work in Boston and Lynn and have considerable experience with people and human services systems on the North Shore. As Grants Coordinator, I receive calls from people in Lynn for emergency help, interview college students from the Greater Lynn area who are in need of scholarship help, and talk with agencies who have requested help. The Grants Committee meets quarterly to make decisions about grants.
