Ministry Teams

Community Building through Social Justice

This ministry team is charged with coordinating the work of our many justice ministries. This includes the work we are doing in Lynn and Swampscott and other local support. As well as our Green Sanctuary program, Welcoming Congregation efforts, and ministries in the larger world. Some of these specific justice ministries have their own ministry teams that focus on their particular initiatives.

Faith Development

This ministry team works collaboratively with the Faith Development Director to fulfill the Faith Development Mission Statement: Lifespan religious education, rooted in our vibrant and diverse community, seeks to provide freedom, support, and resources for the discovery, emergence, and cultivation of the individual and collective spiritual journey.

To that end this group establishes a guiding philosophy and tone for the lifespan faith development program, schedules teachers, and plans social events throughout the year, both for children and for multi-generational groups. They develop policy proposals as needed and an annual budget proposal. They collaborate with the Faith Development Director in matters of youth programming and adult education and address issues throughout the lifespan faith development program as they may arise.

Membership

This ministry team welcomes newcomers and helps them make connections to the congregation and the life of the church. They provide informational gatherings about being a Unitarian Universalist and becoming a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn. They endeavor to strengthen everyone’s sense of belonging to our congregation. The Membership Committee also works with the Church Administrator to keep the list of members current.

Music

The Music Ministry Team supports and advises the Director of Music in providing a dynamic and vibrant music program for the church. They survey parishioners on their satisfaction with music in worship and on the direction the music program should take. They encourage members and visitors to become involved in musical activities and help plan and staff special events, such as the Spring Musical and the Fall Choir Concert. They consult with the Director of Music on the budget for each fiscal year and assist with the employment of other music staff members.

Properties

Working with the Church Administrator and the Sexton, the Properties Ministry Team is responsible for ensuring that our church and grounds are safe, clean, maintained, and accessible. This ministry team plans, budgets, and approves expenditures for furniture, equipment, appliances, HVAC systems, watering and lighting systems, pest control, gas and electricity, groundskeeping and tree safety, and structural upkeep and modifications. The Properties Ministry Team ensures that our church meets all fire and building codes.

Religious Services

The Religious Services Ministry Team plans and implements the calendar of Sunday services and advises and assists the Parish Minister with creating meaningful worship. They arrange for guest speakers and ministers when the Parish Minister is away and participate in planning special services, such as for Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve. Religious Services interacts with other groups involved in conducting our worship services - for example, the ushers and the Music Ministry Team.
